Latest Update – May 2018

Dear Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to update you with some key community initiatives that will be happening this month in Corfe Mullen.

I am pleased to report that on the 22nd May 2018, the Growing Compassionate Communities were formally launched at the Houses of Parliament. I wish to take the opportunity to thank Michael Tomlinson and all his team in making this significant launch happen.

Growing Compassionate Communties launch 22nd May 2018 – Houses of Parliament

The first of these initiatives is the launch of Dementia Walks in Partnership with Health Walks East Dorset District Council, of whom I would like to thank for their support. Activity is important for those people with dementia so we are keen to engage with people who have been newly diagnosed as well as people who have had dementia for some time. These walks will be led by qualified, trained people and will provide an opportunity to reduce loneliness and isolation – two key themes identified by carers. Please look out for further information about dates and times of these in Corfe Mullen library and local shops.

Following on from this, on the 4th Friday of the month at the Village Hall, we will be introducing carpet bowls for anyone who is interested, including those with dementia and carers. This will begin in September and will take place from 2pm – 4.30pm. This activity is to promote fun and support in the community and is open to all. Come and join us for an enjoyable afternoon alongside some gentle exercise. Refreshments will be provided free of charge.

On this date, we will also be launching the” Growing a Compassionate Community” vision and agenda at the same time – please come along to find out more. There will be refreshments available too!

Some important dates for your diary:

  • Carpet bowls continue to run on the 4th Friday of every month at 1:30 pm at the Village Hall.
  • Dementia walks continue on every Tuesday at 10:15 am, starting at the BH Live Leisure Centre.
  • Reminiscence Group continues to run every 1st Friday from 2 to 4pm at Corfe Mullen Library.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support over the last few years and to those people who stop me in the street or local shops, thank you for your encouragement.

Let’s continue to journey together to grow a compassionate inclusive community.

Go well
