Latest Update – August 2017

Dear Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to update you with some key community initiatives that will be happening this month in Corfe Mullen.

The first of these initiatives is the launch of Dementia Walks in Partnership with Health Walks East Dorset District Council, of whom I would like to thank for their support. Activity is important for those people with dementia so we are keen to engage with people who have been newly diagnosed as well as people who have had dementia for some time. These walks will be led by qualified, trained people and will provide an opportunity to reduce loneliness and isolation – two key themes identified by carers. Please look out for further information about dates and times of these in Corfe Mullen library and local shops.

Following on from this, on the 4th Friday of the month at the Village Hall, we will be introducing carpet bowls for anyone who is interested, including those with dementia and carers. This will begin in September and will take place from 2pm – 4.30pm. This activity is to promote fun and support in the community and is open to all. Come and join us for an enjoyable afternoon alongside some gentle exercise. Refreshments will be provided free of charge.

On 29th September, 11am Michael Tomlinson MP will be opening the Corfe Mullen Wellbeing Centre at the Chapel in the Valley Baptist Church. There will be a number of activities around the community that the Wellbeing Centre will be delivering and supporting. The primary focus will be mental health and wellbeing. There will be pastoral support and counselling for those who need it as well as monthly surgeries and drop-ins if you just need to talk to somebody (which we are hoping will include the local PCSO and other professionals). We are also looking to develop mentoring and peer support across the community.

On this date, we will also be launching the” Growing a Compassionate Community” vision and agenda at the same time – please come along to find out more. There will be refreshments available too!

Some important dates for your diary:

  • 29th September, 11am, Michael Tomlinson MP will be opening the Corfe Mullen Wellbeing Centre at the Chapel in the Valley Baptist Church.
  • Carpet bowls begins, Friday 22nd September at 2pm at the Village Hall.
  • Dementia walks begin on Friday 13th October at 2pm. Meet at Corfe Mullen, Scout Hut

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support over the last few years and to those people who stop me in the street or local shops, thank you for your encouragement.

Let’s continue to journey together to grow a compassionate inclusive community.

Go well

Dementia Awareness Week and Craft Activities

Dear friends,

We have 2 significant dates coming up in Corfe Mullen. The first of these is Dementia awareness week. This starts on the 15th of May.

We will plan to engage fully with activities for all ages throughout the week to raise awareness of dementia. This will include information points in the local shops as well an advice surgery on Friday the 19th May. This will take place Corfe Mullen library.

We are also planning craft activities in Corfe Mullen library on the Saturday on the 13th and 20th May.

If you have concerns a over a loved one you can always call into the drop we run at the village hall 4th Friday of the month.

The next dates are carer’s week this is on 12-18 June 2017. Again this will profile the needs of carers throughout the week. Please look out for details nearer the time.

The dementia work seems to be well established in Corfe Mullen, but we still need to get the word out there that you don’t to suffer in silence and you can live well with dementia.

The other thing to mention is that if run a local business and you want it recognising as a dementia friendly business then do get in touch with us

The tender roots of hope are growing in our community so look out for them, they are not far away
